The Old King’s Highway Regional Historic District Commission, on Tuesday June, 14, 2016, upheld a decision by the local board to reject a project proposed by Justice Resource Institute.
The vote at the West Barnstable Community Building was unanimous and came after more than two hours of testimony and about 20 minutes of discussion.
The regional historic district commission could have overturned the decision or sent it back to the Sandwich board for further review. Justice Resource Institute has 20 days to appeal the decision to Barnstable District Court once it is filed with the Sandwich town clerk.
The project had a long history with the Sandwich town committee. The first application, heard on December 9, 2015, was withdrawn after committee members were cool to the size and layout of the proposed structure. A second application was heard on March 9, 2016 with a highly revised site plan. This plan was considered at public hearings held on March 9 and 23, then ultimately disapproved by a vote of 3 to 1 on May 11.
The Commission will publish an official decision and file with the Sandwich Town Clerk within 30 days.
